Moda

Dear Reader,

After a reflective and restful break, Moda is back for the semester and ready to continue learning and making changes as an organization.

On Dec. 12, Moda held a town hall meeting over Zoom, where past and present members spoke about issues regarding Moda’s Fall 2022 print issue, the organization as a whole, and necessary steps moving forward. Moda is thankful to those who attended the call and spoke up with concerns about the organization. We appreciate your time and input, as we aim to implement the ideas from the meeting to improve Moda as an organization.

Moda staff made the decision to slow production for the Spring 2023 semester to focus on learning and improving the organization. Full Staff will continue to meet weekly, working collectively to break down and reestablish the organization to include all members. If you would like to be a part of these conversations, information and updates on meetings will be posted to the Moda website and Slack channel.

On Jan. 29, Moda will welcome back members in the James trophy room from 8 to 10 p.m. Hot chocolate and snacks will be provided. This gathering will be a way for Moda members to mingle and reconnect after a long break.

Moda’s first meeting on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. will be led by Social Justice Education (SJE). Modies will workshop with SJE to learn about power and privilege, social identity and implicit bias as well as begin action planning with assistance from SJE leaders to make future meetings intentional and informed. All Modies are required to attend. Moda aims to have a continued relationship with SJE and hold more sessions with them in the future. Learn more about SJE workshops and training here.

Moda will be making updates on the website regarding the newsletter. We will be adding an archive page to the site containing the past issues from fall semester for everyone to see. Check the Moda website soon for these changes.

This semester, we aim to keep the newsletter running. While Moda is slowing production of content, we want to be able to keep our readers informed of Moda’s changes as an organization and goals we are working towards. As always, stay tuned on Moda’s website, Instagram and TikTok for more information on what’s coming next. We are super excited to have everyone back for a productive, meaningful semester of change!

Warmly,

Jamie Randall, Newsletter Editor
